The History of Blackjack

April 30th, 2009

The origins of blackjack are hotly debated over all over the world. Some say it was played before Jesus Christ was born, others say it was a game invented after the playing cards were invented some 600 years ago. On thing is for sure though, the game has constantly evolved and is still doing so today. If we look online there are an ever changing amount of varying games to delight the player, often with better odds than the original.

Some say the game of Blackjack dates back to 700bc during the Roman occupancy of Europe. There is no doubt that it was a different game back then as playing cards were not invented until 1440. However some argue that the Romans used to play with blacks of wood, each one with a different numerical value. If this is true then it is quite believable that the game may have dated back to this period in its simplest form. After all we know that gambling was rife at this time, with soldiers of the Roman Empire gambling anything from jewellery to wives and animals.

Fast forwarding several centuries, the origins of blackjack played with playing cards as we know today, can be traced back to the countries of either France or Italy during the 15th century. As mentioned previously the playing cards that we know today were created in 1440 by John Guttenburg and many of the earlier games revolved around counting totals, similar to what is required for blackjack.

There are some games that are similar to blackjack but do not mirror the game enough to warrant the title "the original blackjack game". Games such as Baccarat, an Italian game invented in 1493 is one such game that is sometimes linked to the beginnings of blackjack, as is a Spanish game known as "1 & 30". However neither really resembles the game we know today as blackjack and so the search must be directed elsewhere.

So to France where there is stronger evidence as to the origins of blackjack. In the 18th century a game known as 21 was played by the French aristocracy. The game would be played in rounds with players trying to achieve a score of 21. If the dealer achieved a score of 21 however, he would be paid at 3-1. This could be the beginnings of the house edge coming into play.

The game of 21 moved to America in 1875. It was first played in the gambling halls in 1910 keeping its original name of 21. Unfortunately the game didn't have many takers to begin with and many of the gambling halls created new bonus payouts for certain hands in an attempt to increase its popularity. The name Blackjack came about when many gambling halls offered a bonus payout to those payers who landed the hand ace of spades and the jack of clubs or spades. Unfortunately the bonus didn't last long but the name has stood the test of time.

By the 1930's blackjack had become so popular that it had become the number 1 game in Vegas. Its popularity continues to grow today with high rollers often spending millions on games at the super casinos of the USA.

The internet spelt a new era for blackjack with the introduction of online casinos. Now players could enjoy the game they loved so much in the comfort of their own home. Online casinos also added new variations of the original game such as blackjack switch as well as the chance to be the dealer. Many of the new variants of the original game offer better odds for the player due to the lower running costs of the online operations. In essence there is no better time to be a blackjack player.

Making Money as a Poker Player

April 28th, 2009

When a common person that never entered the world of true poker thinks of it, the last thoughts that will pass through his mind will be strategies and discipline. Common persons see poker as a game for the rich, cigars smoking and pool sitting men, that have nothing else to do with their money. The concept couldn't be more misunderstood than it usually is. The truth is that when talking of poker, online or offline, people think of it as a common casino game, like the roulette or blackjack. They believe that luck is the key, when in fact it isn't. If they knew a thing or two about poker, they would realize that above all, hold'em is a way to win some money, and if any good at it even a steady income.

Many people make their living this way and they have learned over time how to be moderate and how to manage their money properly in order to treat them as an investment that brings income steadily. It doesn't mean it is for anyone no matter their skills. The truth is that in order to play poker and make money online you have to study and improve yourself permanently. The competitive level is high, and this is a good thing because it can keep you connected at all times. First you must understand that hold'em is not a game of luck. It doesn't matter that you find it in casinos alongside with roulette and other purely luck games. It matters that it depends on your skills and the skills of the others paying with you. If you continue to consider it a game of luck, then you will hold a great disadvantage when playing with others that don't. If, on the contrary, you don't and you stumble across players that still do, then the disadvantage is their and you can use it to win more hands.

As in every life aspect, luck has a role in poker too. But, just as we can predict through statistic and calculus everything else, so can poker be predicted. Mathematics can help you understand strategies and odds and if you are skilled you can even develop your own strategies with its help.

So, the money making issue when it come to hold'em is not a fantasy it is a fact. Yes, you can make money playing poker. You can get rich over time or you can just provide steady income for your needs, whatever your intentions are, just as long as you understand the game completely. This means read as much as you can about it, practice as often as you can, diversify opponents s you can combine strategies learnt and in time you will be able to rank yourself higher and higher and see for yourself that money making and poker really do go hand in hand.

Casino Games: Deceit Methods

April 26th, 2009

Where money is, there is always place for fraud. History of gambling games knows many cases when gamblers invented the ways how to fraud each other. With the advent of casinos appeared tricks in gambling-houses. That was a bilateral trick – from the side of gamblers as well as from the side of a casino.

Sure, more respectable the gambling-house where the game takes place is there are less chances for dirty tricks. Prestigious gambling-houses it is not advantageous to fraud their clients as they make money on a fair game and they have no reason to risk their license or worst of all freedom. As casinos can count money fraud from the side of gamblers is cut short completely with efficient work of security service.

But where a casino does not keep an eye on security in full measure and those want to make a profit out of its carelessness leave themselves a loophole. And "one-day-casinos" themselves would not mind kicking out of the clients maximally possible amount of money for a short term of their existence.

And the game does not matter there – let it be poker, roulette wheel, blackjack or any other game. The ways of fraud differ, the objective to be achieved is one – to get money of "a fish" in a fraudulent way.

Blackjack is a rather popular game all over the world. And accordingly there are many ways of fraud for that. It is easier for a gambling-house to technically fraud a gambler. Let's analyze some methods of clients' fraud in blackjack by unfair operators of casinos:

Incomplete set. The easiest way to worsen chances of a gambler to win is to take away some cards from the set probably aces. That will reduce a number of "blackjack" combinations at the gamblers and as a result their chances to win.

Marked cards. Casinos can use this way of fraud when a false gambler plays at the table. Sitting, as a rule, on the last box, he takes a decision on the cards so that croupier could pick the strongest combination than the other gamblers.

Crooked shoe. The game begins with already shuffled set in the shoes. Before that, the cards should be distributed so that it would bee enough to have a shuffle to become bankrupt.

False Shuffles. Before start the game, making false shuffle, with a rather easy technique a croupier can divide the set into two parts – one with bowers and the other one with minor cards. And knowing how a client cuts the cards or making a false cut of the cards, a croupier will give for the game only minor cards that worsens the situation of a gambler.

Special shoe. The only wish can make invent a device for a croupier to take out of the set a card he needs. A special system of mirrors and prisms in such shoes does not let the gamblers win.

"A mistake" of a croupier. Sometimes the croupiers make mistakes and a winner combination becomes losing. But sometimes it is not a case of inattentiveness of a croupier but a wish to play up a client. Mostly it occurs to the gamblers inebriated with alcohol who do not follow the game.

The gamblers who increase their chances in fraudulent way playing blackjack use different methods beginning from a primitive pinching of dibs up to command games applying technical means. The following are some well-known ways of card-shaping:

Late stake. It is a common way of card-shaping – increase of the stake with a winner combination available and decrease with a losing combination available. So when a gambler has a blackjack, he or his accomplices draw away a croupier and put on the box a greater amount of money.

Replacement of the cards. There is a game blackjack switch. There a gambler can change his cards on two boxes. For example, if on the one there are an ace and a sice and other a dick and a cinque, he shall have right to replace the cards to obtain an ace and a dick (blackjack) on one box and 11 points on the other one. But using some manipulations the gamblers can change the cards on different boxes also in ordinary blackjack.

Browsing. When a croupier offers to cut the cards one of plotters takes a cut card and passes it over the surface of the cards as he browses. At that a correct browsing should be made on the underside of the set so that a croupier could not notice a trick. It should be made so that the accomplice could see 3-4 last cards in the set. Then they make a cut and the game will continue with the minimum. When the seen cards should appear the gambler increases the stakes up to maximum and puts the stakes over all the boxes. Knowing which cards would come out, he makes a croupier pip out. Such distribution for a shuffle is enough to clear out the casino.

Marked cards. This card-shaping requires complicity of a casino's employee. It is very efficient as a gambler always knows which card comes next.

Crooked shuffle. As in the case of card-shaping with a gambler, being in conspiracy with a croupier the gamblers can hope for increase of their chances at special distribution of the cards after the crooked shuffle.

Replacement of the cards. It is a very sophisticated way of card-shaping. Especially in the casinos where shoes with the cards carelessly lays on an empty table. A gambler comes up to the table and while a pit boss calls a croupier he changes the set of the cards in the shoes or the shoes itself (!) with the cards for a previously prepared shoes made for his (gambler's) gain.

All the above methods of trick still take place in fraudulent gambling-houses. But we do not recommend to apply them for assurance of the gain as the consequences of application thereof can be very dangerous. This article is awareness-raising and preventive. We hope that with this information you will be able to secure your game.

Blackjack Tournaments

April 25th, 2009

Blackjack is one of the more popular games played in real and virtual casinos. The excitement surrounding the game lends to its popularity as there is always shouting, laughing, and cheering around the blackjack table.

It stands to reason that blackjack tournaments would be no different. Even the online versions of blackjack tournaments are flashy and exciting, with many players participating from the comfort of their own homes. Blackjack tournaments are fairly easy to get involved in, particularly online, and can garner high stakes and prizes.

Several sites are devoted to blackjack tournaments, and before getting involved with one you should be sure that you are aware of all the rules involved. Most blackjack tournaments are played for prizes, points or credits and there is almost always an entry fee. However, read all of the rules and regulations to make sure you are aware what exactly you are playing for and that there are no hidden charges. If you want to play for cash, be sure the web site specifically states that the blackjack tournament is being played accordingly.

The thing that most gamblers like about participating in a blackjack tournament, whether online or in a real casino, is that they are playing against other players and not just against the house and the casino itself. This adds a real edge of excitement to a game that is normally more about one player than several.

Blackjack tournaments are not as popular as slot tournaments; however, the elusiveness can make them even more fun. This is because it takes a certain amount of skill to play and even more so to participate in a blackjack tournament. You will usually be playing against players who have practiced relentlessly and know the game inside and out.

Blackjack tournaments are played online and in land-based casinos. When playing online, you are better able to watch others play first, get advice and tips from the pros and concentrate in a quiet, stable environment. This is not always an advantage you can have in a land-based casino. In addition, since most casinos do not have a large number of blackjack tables, they are not able to hold large-scale blackjack tournaments as often. This is why online gambling sites have an advantage. They are not bound by space; so many players can participate at any given time.

Blackjack tournaments can be fun and lucrative. Just be sure to learn all you can about the game, read the rules over a couple of times and don't gamble more than the number in your bankroll. Remember to have fun!

Basic Blackjack strategies

April 23rd, 2009

Working in the casino industry for 9 years, first as a dealer, and then as a pit boss has taught me many things. Two useful tips are:

1) Consistency is KEY

2) If you get greedy, you're going to get careless

To start with, you CAN beat the house, which brings me to the first point.

In a game like Blackjack, being consistentin the way you play is the key factor to winning on a regular basis. For example, if you split Aces, ALWAYS split Aces. If you hit 16's, do it EVERY time. You won't win every hand, mind you, but it will help the flow of the cards, and if you've been staying on your 16's for an hour and then suddenly decide to hit, and the dealer makes their hand, the other players will be less than thrilled because, chances are, they played their hands on the assumption that you were going to stay on 16. It's been my experience that a good, consistent game will result in a good shoe. This holds true for online blackjack as well, whether you're playing by yourself, or against a computer.

My next point is:

If you get greedy, you're going to get careless. I've seen it so many times. A player starts to lose, so he starts playing inconsistently. For example, taking a card when he does’nt normally, splitting 10's or "surrendering" on a card total of 12. You're probably thinking "Who would do that?" Well I've seen it done at least once a day at the casino. This is the surefire way to LOSE YOUR SHIRT.

I've recently become an affiliate for Windows Casino, since I have experience in the gaming industry, and I have to say Windows Casino is the best "bang for your buck." When you download their software to play the games, they give you $1000 free to start with. It is very nice software, easy to use, and I found it better than most online sites I've played at in the past.

In the future I'll be posting more articles about the different games that are fun and have the best odds. So stay tuned!

Blackjack Rules and Strategy

April 21st, 2009

Blackjack Rules

Basic Rules

The premise of Blackjack is to get 21 or be closer to it than the dealer without going over, or busting. You are not playing against any other players at the table, and the play of the dealer is determined by his own draw. So anyone seeing your cards is inconsequential, not to mention impossible when playing online because you're playing a computer.

The value of your hand is the sum of the cards. The Ace is worth either 1 or 11 (doesn't have to be specified, just assumed to be the value that makes the best hand). Jack, Queen, King and 10 are all worth 10. Number cards are, you guessed it, equal to the number on the card.

Blackjack Jargon

The first and most important distinction in blackjack is, the Blackjack, or Natural. A blackjack is 21 on the first two cards, an ace with a 10, J, Q, or K. Getting 21 with say 7, 5, 9 is 21, not blackjack. Blackjack has a higher payout than 21. Any time both the player and dealer blackjack it is a tie or Push.

After the initial two cards are dealt, if you'd like another card you may Hit. Once you are satisfied with your cards (you did play your hand to optimize your odds right?) you will Stand.

In addition to the original bet, you are allowed to increase your wager up to double after the first two cards have been dealt, and only after the first two cards are dealt. When you decide to Double Down you are dealt only a third card, so you should expect to be able to win the hand with only one more card. A prime example would be if you were dealt 5, 6, you have a fair chance of getting a card of value 10 and winning and the larger pot.

Should you be dealt a pair you have the option of Splitting. The two matching cards are separated and your bet for each hand is equal to the original bet, and each hand is played independently.

Casinos sometimes offer you an opportunity to opt out of a hand by giving up a portion of your wager. The aptly named Surrender comes in two forms, early and late. The late surrender allows you to opt out only after the dealer has checked his hand for blackjack. In the early form you can surrender before the dealer checks his hand for blackjack, giving the dealer a slightly smaller advantage. As you may expect, casinos are aware of this margin of advantage, thus you will rarely find a casino that offers early surrender.

The final betting alteration is Insurance. Insurance is offered when the first card the dealer gives himself is an ace. The insurance is for half of your wager and pays out 2:1. This is to 'protect' you from a dealer blackjack. Purchasing insurance is generally a poor choice and statistically you end up better off ignoring it. However, more advanced players can detect situations with a high likelihood that the dealer with blackjack thus taking advantage of the insurance.

Blackjack strategy

Before playing a hand you should know the context of the game which you are playing. This includes number of cards in the deck and how the dealers play is determined. These two points are important because, if you intend to win or at least optimize your odds, they will influence how you play.

The first fact you should not is how many decks of cards you will be playing from. More decks makes it more difficult to keep track of cards played, thus making it more difficult to speculate odds of cards coming up. For one deck you can simply mark cards played and see what remains. With multiple decks in play if you keep track of how many of each card has been played you will begin to get an advantage as the game progresses.

Slight variations in what determines the dealers play can have an impact on your decisions, therefore should be noted. There are two popular methods of laying out play. The most common method is the dealer stands on all 17s. All aces equal 11 unless it would make them bust. The variation is that the dealer stands on hard 17s and all 18s. This means that if the dealer has A, 6 (soft 17) he would still hit. If a 10 came up then the dealer would stand.

Above all, play with common sense and have a good time. Base your decisions on logic and you just might CrackTheCasino.

Beware of So-Called Baccarat Strategy

April 18th, 2009

Card Counting is one of those phony ideas published in baccarat strategy books. Card counting is most often associated with the game of blackjack - and is very effected, used correctly in the right casino. It could also seem to be of real worth in baccarat as the game does work off a comparable shoe. The issue that causes the problem is that of used cards be reintroduced into the shoe before very many have been taken out, thereby flummoxing any count made up to that point! Baccarat also, unlike Blackjack, does not allow the player the right to change his bet mid-hand in play. Blackjack allows this practice in a number of specific cases, and the player can increase his bet if his count changes during play. In baccarat, card counting presents very few situations with an advantage against the house that the actual overall labours are of no value to the player at all.

Baccarat can be considered a very elaborate coin toss game. This oversimplified impression of the game lures many players to using the Martingale based system of betting which entails doubling up on ones’ bet each time a hand is lost. The Logic being that you eventually have to win, and the doubling will allow you to recoup all losses made from all the preceding hands! A perfect system indeed and one that actually can’t be beaten in games like baccarat or roulette, and it is because of this that casinos issued new rules. The new rules limit how much a player can bet in 1 hand.

Casinos effectively got rid of the threat of the Martingale System gambler or player by setting Table maximums (and minimums). i.e. A player bets $5 on the banker and lost. Next bet, $10 on the banker, next bet $20, etc, and he continues to lose. Before long, his bet will have doubled up to a point that it will exceed the table maximum. In this case the player can’t bet any higher and his system has failed, he must quit. The Martingale System is a horrific betting system that follows a human beings panic thinking - their natural thought pattern that somehow believes that if a coin lands heads up 9x in a row, there is a greater chance than 50% that it will land tails on the 10th flip! IT DOES NOT WORK!

So - if all these strategies and systems - card counting, pattern spotting, streak spotting etc are worthless strategies for baccarat - is there any good one? Well…practically and mathematically speaking… when you analyse the numbers, the odds do seem to always be in favour when a player bets on the banker, though this is a very boring tactic to play. Perhaps throw in some pattern chasing to break the tedium, or count the scorecards!

Blackjack Favorable Rules - Play the Casino With the Best Rules to Win!

April 17th, 2009

In any casino game, knowing the factors that affect your chances of winning are all important. Here you will find everything you need to know about playing with favorable rules.

Keep in mind you can be an expert card counter but unless the rules are in your favor you will lose.

Casinos are not going to advertise that the chances of winning at their game are less than if you play in other casinos, but the fact is some casinos offer far more favorable rules than others and you have to find them and play in them.

Bring Those Odds Down – Look for the Favorable Rules

Any blackjack player can increase their own odds advantage by including in their strategy ‘card counting’, which will eventually shifts the odds advantage in their favor.

Card counting is not enough as we have said; you must play blackjack with favorable rules.

The calculated odds of different rules below show how favorable and unfavorable to the player they are.

They can make the difference in winning and losing, so note them.

Rules Favorable to the Player

Early surrender +0.62%

Late surrender Single deck +0.02%

Double down after splitting +0.13%

Drawing to split aces +0.14%

Re splitting of aces +0.03%

Double down cards any number +0.20%

2:1 payoff blackjack +2.32%

Rules Unfavorable to the Player

no doubling on hard 11 -0.89%

no doubling on hard 10 -0.56%

no doubling on hard 9 -0.14%

no doubling soft hands -0.14%

dealer hits soft 17 -0.20%

dealer takes no hole card -0.13%

2 decks (v single) -0.35%

4 decks (v single) -0.51%

6 decks (v single) -0.60%

pairs no re splitting -0.05%

Card counting plus the infleunce of the casino rules can clearly be seen in numbers of decks.

By increasing the number of decks used in play the casino shifts the odds in their favor.

Understanding this fact is essential for any player before they play a game. Card counting is severely effected by the number of decks used.

For example, in a single deck game, of a player against a dealer – a +2 count is a 2% advantage to the player. As the number of decks is increased, with more cards to be dealt, the increased remainder of cards reduces the odds of success for the player.

Card counting How to make money

Is simply a probability theory whereby you calculate the odds of winning by the number of cards in play to decide what cards may come out of the deck.

With multi decks the odds are obviously reduced, as there are simply more cards to come out of the deck and your probability of being right is reduced.

In conclusion, the more decks the more cards there are to be dealt and the less your chances of winning are. Card counting + Favorable rules = long term success

As carding counting gives you an edge of just 2%, you can see how critical the number of decks used are.

You can also see how other rules affect the odds, our example of number of decks is just one variable influencing your success but as you can see there are many others. Take your time and find a casino that tips the odds in your favor.

So if you want to make money card counting you must combine this with favorable rules or your skills will be wasted.

Minnesota Casinos

April 13th, 2009

Minnesota casinos are located in the ″Land of 10,000 Lakes,″ a Northern state known for its natural beauty, cultural attractions, and a prosperous economy. Minnesota, ranked as the ″Most Livable State″ in the United States, has a population of over 5,000,000 people and an area of 79,610 square miles. The capital of Minnesota, St. Paul, with a population of approximately 280,000, is located adjacent to Minneapolis on the Mississippi River. The two cities are often referred to as the ″Twin Cities″ of Minnesota.

There are a number of Minnesota casinos scattered throughout the state, either located on Native American Tribal land or under Native American jurisdiction. Minnesota has 22 tribal-state regulations for Minnesota casinos, which allow blackjack, slots, craps, and other video gaming machines, while separate tribal agreements allow poker and bingo. The Mystic Lake Casino, in Prior Lake, is the largest in Minnesota, with 125,000 square feet, 4,000 slots, 84 table games, four restaurants, and a hotel. The Treasure Island Resort and Casino, in Welch, is another large casino, with 116,000 square feet of gambling area, 2,500 slots, 44 table games, seven restaurants, and a small hotel.

Another popular Minnesota casino is Jackpot Junction, in Morton, with 80,000 square feet, 1,650 slots, 28 table games, with blackjack and poker, as well as nine restaurants and two hotels. In addition, Minnesota casinos include the Grand Casino Hinckley, with 54,800 square feet, 2,170 slots, 47 table games, six restaurants, and four hotels; and the Grande Casino Mille Lacs, in Onamia, with 54,800 square feet, 1,885 slots, 24 table games, five restaurants, and two hotels.

Some of the smaller Minnesota casinos include the Fortune Bay Resort Casino, in Tower, with 50,000 square feet, 686 slots, and 12 table games; the Northern Lights Casino, in Walker, with 40,000 square feet, 950 slots, and 12 table games; and the Fond-du-Luth Casino, in Duluth, with 20,000 square feet, 745 slots, and four table games. The Prairie Edge Casino Resort, a smaller casino in Granite Falls, has 27,000 square feet, 660 slots, and six table games.

Minnesota casinos do not provide any revenue in the form of taxes to the state of Minnesota. There are some fees, however, that compensate the state to some extent for inspections and other items in the tribal agreements. Minnesota is rich in natural attractions, a land of ″sky-tinted″ waters, with an economy that might be well be enhanced with the expansion and introduction of more casinos in the future.
